If your hair looks somewhat like this then you definitely have dandruff, and it needs attention.
What is dandruff?
Dandruff can be due to many reasons but mostly it occurs when your scalp is dry, this condition is called as Seborrhea Dermatitis.
Dandruff can be there because of other reasons too such as eczema, psoriasis, or because of a yeast like fungus called Malassezia Folliculitis.
In Drugstores you can get anti-fungal shampoos but search for some ingredients that targets the fungus and removes the dead flaky cells.

1. Tea Tree Oil
Studies show that with only 5% of usage of tea tree oil on the hair reduces dandruff effectively.
You can add few drops in your coconut oil or in your shampoo.
It doesn’t smell strong, so you don’t need to worry about it.
Moreover, you can use tea tree oil products on your skin for treating acne.
2. Olive Oil
Olive oil has antibacterial properties and good hydrator. Apply some olive oil on your hair and leave it overnight. Cover your hair with a shower cap and let your hair soak the olive oil throughout the night.
Make sure you applied ample amount of olive oil on your scalp. In the morning rinse your hair with a shampoo which is anti-dandruff and contains properties or ingredients mentioned above.
It would be more beneficial if you use a shampoo which has olive oil already, but it is not easy to find a shampoo that has olive oil properties so you can skip that part if you want.
3. Baking Soda
You won’t even know but your kitchen may have an ingredient that will make your hair itch free and non-flaky.
You can use dry baking soda, or you can add few drops of lime juice making a paste of it.
Now all you have to do is apply it on your scalp and not on the tips of the hair.
Either the paste or the dry baking soda rubs it vigorously on your scalp not so roughly that you pull out your hair but with little pressure.
Now that you have applied to paste on your scalp leave it for 1 or 2 hours.
After 1 or 2 hours wash your scalp with water, do not use shampoo on it, after washing out the scalp with water you may feel the hair has dried a little bit but after 1 week your scalp will produce natural oil also known as sebum and your hair will be smooth and soft again.
4. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider Vinegar has anti-fungal properties in it. Because of its low pH the acidity is increased, and due to low pH, it becomes difficult for bacteria to grow.
All you have to do is take ½ cup of Apple Cider Vinegar and ½ cup of water, put it in a spray bottle and apply it on your scalp.
Make partitions of your hair and let it set for 15 minutes to 45 minutes.
Do this twice a week and you will definitely find some amazing results.
5. Aloe Vera & Lemon
Aloe Vera Gel is so important in our life that it helps us to get good skin, good hair and good health. Now again it has antibacterial properties that limits the growth of bacteria on our scalp.
Lemon also has some acidity in it, so it does not let the dandruff sit on the scalp.
Aloe vera also hydrates and makes our hairs Shiny.
Make a fine paste of aloe vera gel and squeeze out one lemon and makes them together.
Now apply the fine paste on your scalp leave it for 1 to 2 hours and let the scalp absorb.
6. Neem
Neem is useful in eradicating the bacteria and fungus either it’s on skin or scalp.
It has some amazing properties that will stop the dandruff without any doubt.
Take fresh Neem leaves, a handful of them, now make a fine paste of them you can also add water to it, or rosewater water or lime juice. Apply it on your scalp for 1 to 2 hours, then rinse of with plain water.
7. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is a tried remedy for dandruff. You can apply 4 to 5 tablespoon of hot coconut oil on your scalp leave it for 1 hours then wash it with your regular anti dandruff shampoo. Using coconut oil twice or thrice a week will definitely reduce the dandruff on your scalp.
Tips to prevent dandruff from coming back.
- Don’t over shampoo your hair.
- Use sulfur free products.
- . Use baby shampoo.
- Don’t scratch if you feel itching on your scalp, it may lead to wounds and infection.
- Limit the usage of blow dryers.
- Maintain your hygiene.
- Don’t stop oiling your hair.
