Black, dark, bumpy spots on your skin? Then it must be strawberry legs.
Strawberry legs is a term derived from the dark, pitted appearance on the skin resembling a strawberry. It is also known as Keratosis Pilaris.
Keratosis Pilaris is a condition that causes dark, patchy bumps on the skin, thus resembling a strawberry-like texture.
What are the causes of strawberry legs?
The dark patches on the skin occur due to increased keratin protein production, which causes blockage in the hair follicles.
It can also be caused due to other reasons, such as a razor or a skin condition.
Strawberry legs are formed when your skin pores—known as comedones—are irritated.
Open comedones are more likely to form strawberry legs.
These open comedones can trap air and oil from the atmosphere and swell up, forming ingrown hairs.
These ingrown hairs then get trapped inside a thick layer of skin. On touch, these ingrown hair comedones may feel bumpy.
When you apply a razor, it may cut these ingrown hairs, which can darken them.
Strawberry legs are also caused when you have thick hair.
Shaving without cream or soap can irritate the skin, causing folliculitis or dark skin bumps.
Treatment for Strawberry Legs
Don’t worry — you can always treat it in a natural and effective way.
1. Try NOT using razors
Even if you are not a fan of waxing or hair removal creams, you should give it a try.
Using razors on the legs causes close cuts to the uplifted follicles, which leads to dark spots on the surface of the skin.
2. Use shaving creams & soaps
If you shave your legs, try using shaving creams and soaps to create a slippery effect on the skin.
This allows the razor to glide easily without cutting the surface of the follicles.
Always apply these products before shaving.
3. Make homemade scrubs
You can always make body scrubs for strawberry legs.
It’s an easy, effective, and long-lasting remedy.
Body scrubs not only help reduce skin bumps but also polish the skin by removing dead skin cells.
