Toxicity Check of Skincare Products

Are You Aware of Toxic Ingredients in Your Skincare Products? Secrets of Skincare Products

We all want acne-free and clear skin. But are you aware how much chemical skincare we put on our face?
Almost 15–16 toxic skincare products daily, with over 72 million chemical combinations in skincare products today. Most of us want to have an “organic”, “non-toxic”, and “natural” skincare approach. But with growing marketing and advertising, we have lost the meaning of organic and natural.

Then how are we supposed to know what skincare products to trust?

This blog will help you find non-toxic skincare products and makeup beauty products you should avoid in your face care or skincare routine.

Why Paraben-Free Cosmetic?

You must be familiar with the term Paraben.
You must have seen skincare products such as makeup, moisturizers, face creams, cleansers, eye creams, anti-aging creams, and also face serums nowadays, labelled with a big tag.

But the question still stands:

  • What are parabens?
  • What products contain parabens?
  • Are parabens safe?
  • What are the harmful effects of parabens?

Parabens are used as preservatives. Parabens are added in skincare, food, and other things that need to be preserved for a longer duration of time.

Parabens, on the other hand, can imitate the estrogen hormone, which showed that paraben can cause an increase in the growth of tumors. But it produces much less estrogen hormone than our body naturally produces.

Although till date there are no verified studies that show that parabens are responsible for cancer, parabens in large amounts are harmful parabens, which can penetrate into our bloodstream and cause problems.

Examples of Parabens:

  • Methylparabens
  • Ethyl parabens
  • Butylparabens
  • Heptyl parabens

Dark Entanglements of Fragrance

Skincare products with strong fragrances are made of strong chemicals to hold the desirable smell.
Many of the beauty products have strong fragrances, which can cause:

  • Skin irritation
  • Skin allergies
  • Skin rashes
  • Skin dryness

Some hair cleansers and shampoos, with strong fragrances, can cause an increase in hair fall or a receding hairline.

It is also shown in research that 1.7–4.1% of people in the general population have perfume intolerance.
Many brands promise natural fragrances in beauty products, but it doesn’t really imply that it is derived naturally.
Or even if it is, then it could still irritate the skin.

Alcohol-Free Skincare

Alcohol-free skincare or makeup products refer to fermented alcohol or ethyl alcohol. Alcohol-containing skincare products have a drying or cleaning effect.

In case of oily skin, alcohol toners can effectively clear out the skin and remove the dirt over the top layer of skin.
Alcohol is comparatively less penetrating to the skin because it evaporates in a jiff.

Alcohol products can be beneficial for oily skin, acne-prone skin, and combination skin as it has a clearing effect.
Alcohol toner removes the oil and debris from the skin.

But in some cases, it can cause extreme skin dryness and skin pigmentation.

People with normal skin must use alcohol-free skincare products, as well as people with dry skin should avoid alcohol products in their skincare routine.

List of Toxins in Skincare

Carcinogens and Skin Damage

  • Paraformaldehyde
  • Methylene glycol
  • Polyfluoroalkyl
  • Quaternium-15
  • O-phenylenediamine
  • M-phenylenediamine

Damage to Nervous System and Hormone Regulations

  • Mercury
  • Dibutyl and diethylhexyl phthalates
  • Isobutyl and isopropyl
  • Oxybenzone

Overall Thoughts

There are very few skincare products which provide vegan, natural, and organic skincare ingredients. Therefore, a skincare product cannot be quoted as fully effective in a natural way.

There are always some ingredients that are good for the skin.
But the less you layer up, the more your skin breathes. ❤
