YOGA: Beginners Yoga Guide

Yoga is an ancient technique of well-being and overall oneness used by the yogis in olden days.
Yoga was first mentioned in the “OLDEST” sacred text known as the Rig Veda. Maharshi Patanjali was the very sage to document yoga in 4 sutras of Rig Veda in 400 CE.
Then yoga spread worldwide in the form of the word yoga.” It was started in the West in the late 1800s. As we can see now that yoga has spread so much in the passing time from India to the West and now all over the globe, then why not welcome yoga right away?

  • Practice: Yoga can be done by anyone, among any age group or gender, despite any deformity; this is the beauty of yoga.
  • Yoga Space: Yoga can be done anywhere; it can be started anywhere where your yoga mat can fit in. We can always find yoga right in our sweet homes. Yoga at home can be really interesting and comfortable as well. You don’t need much space for it; it can be in your drawing room, bedroom, terrace, balcony, on the bed, or near a wall, or the best is a park. Yoga is not always about having a large space for practice, but with a good heart and mindfulness, it always pays off. Try to practice in a calm environment where you are free of any negative thoughts or where you can breathe to de-stress. And keep your mat in a room that is well lit with sunlight and that has proper ventilation, for instance, near the window or door.
  • Asanas: To perform asanas, one should try to get to know their bodies. While starting off yoga asanas, try to keep it simple and steady. Avoid any jerky movements or vigorous stretching. Start at the beginner’s level and then proceed to the intermediate level, and then, with time, to the advanced level. And also, yoga is not just about achieving some poses that are done by yoga gurus, but also, it’s more about practicing with discipline and exploring the capabilities of the human body.
  • Mindfulness & Balance: Being mindful and calm while practicing yoga can help the body to go one step further. Keep the movements slow and steady, being mindful of the body movements. Keep the Drishti (gaze) focused on one point or at any distant object.  Do not move the head rapidly, which can cause distortion in proprioception, hence disturbing the overall balance of the body.
  • Meal After-Before: One can always start yoga in the early morning, as it is the best time to shake up the muscles and circulate the energy all over the body. Or you can always eat fruits before yoga, fruit smoothies, green tea, or even a salad. Whereas other heavy meals, such as pasta, curry, sandwiches, rice, or other high-carb foods, are not meant to be taken before yoga practice.
  • Energies: Energies do matter in yoga practice; the intention with which you get on your mat matters. Such as getting on the mat with no expectations, a learning attitude or positivity helps in yoga practice.  But negative emotions such as jealousy, anxiety, anger, and so on don’t bring any joy to the practice. Keeping the yoga space neat and clean also adds up to good energy in your daily yoga practice.
  • Yoga Props: Well, a yoga mat is the major need of the practice, but sometimes it can also go as an alternate option with a regular thick cloth mat. For other props, one can also try keeping yoga blocks at the side, the yoga wheel, and a yoga belt.  Also put some indoor plants or little aroma candles if needed.
